Obstructed labour and Ruptured Uterus

Obstructed labour is the prevalent cause of uterine
rupture in the developing countries.

Causes:
  1. Disproportion
  2. Abnormal position of the fetus.
Rupture uterus is a common sequence of obstructed labour in a female with many pregnancies (grandmultipara).
Generally a previous uterine  scar is the dominant single precipitating factor for uterine rupture.
However, rupture of an unscarred uterus is usually accompanied by greater blood loss and shock and more dangerous for the mother.
Obstructed labour and its consequence are the most important reported cause of maternal death in Africa
